From the Ravens Are Magic collection
Protectors of Humankind is a large-format contemporary figurative painting by Belgian artist Antwone Smad. Five raven-like guardians occupy the lower register, each enclosing or shielding a luminous turquoise orb understood by the artist as an individual universe. Behind them, a broad orange and ochre field represents the encroaching desert storm.Antwone Smad also has an identifiable public artistic presence in which “Ravens Are Magic” appears as a recurring collection title, strengthening continuity between this work and the artist’s broader practice.
