Protectors of Humankind

Five raven-like guardians occupy the lower register, each enclosing or shielding a luminous turquoise orb understood by the artist as an individual universe. Behind them, a broad orange and ochre field represents an encroaching desert storm.

A supplied studio photograph showing the painting during production materially supports the stated authorship and date. At over two metres wide, one of the largest and most ambitious contemporary pieces in the collection.
